The End of RIPP
Understanding Why We React — And How Unnecessary Emotional Suffering Can End
After more than twenty years of working with people experiencing anger, anxiety, depression, relationship conflict, addiction, shame and stress, I kept noticing something remarkable.
Although everyone's story was different, the emotional process beneath their suffering was often the same.
People became caught in recurring patterns of resistance, perceived injustice, powerlessness and pain. Once those patterns took hold, the same emotional reactions repeated again and again, often despite years of insight, therapy or determination to change.
That observation became RIPP.
The End of RIPP is the culmination of those years of observation, reflection and practical experience.
It is not simply another self-help book.
It offers a different way of understanding unnecessary emotional suffering and explains why awareness, rather than endless analysis, is often the beginning of lasting change.
Why I Wrote This Book
Throughout my career I met intelligent, thoughtful people who understood why they reacted as they did.
They knew where their difficulties had come from.
They understood their childhood.
They recognised their patterns.
Yet, in the moments that mattered most, the same emotional reactions still took over.
I began asking a different question.
Rather than asking "Why are people like this?", I started asking "What is happening in the moment before the reaction takes over?"
That question changed everything.
The answer became RIPP.
This book is my attempt to explain that process in a way that is practical, compassionate and accessible to everyone.
What You'll Discover
In The End of RIPP you'll discover:
- Why emotional suffering often follows predictable patterns.
- How the RIPP Loop keeps emotional reactions repeating.
- Why the RIPP Vortex can make anger, anxiety and relationship conflict feel impossible to escape.
- How awareness changes experience.
- Why emotional freedom isn't about suppressing feelings but understanding them differently.
- Practical ways to recognise emotional patterns before they take over.
The book isn't about becoming someone different.
It's about discovering who you are when automatic emotional reactions no longer dominate your life.
Who This Book Is For
This book is for anyone who has ever found themselves asking:
- Why do I keep reacting like this?
- Why do I lose my temper when I don't want to?
- Why does anxiety keep returning?
- Why do we keep having the same arguments?
- Why do I know better but still do the same thing?
It is written for readers, clients, therapists, coaches and anyone interested in understanding the psychological processes behind unnecessary emotional suffering.
No previous knowledge of psychology is required.
The ideas are explained in everyday language and illustrated with real-life examples.
More Than a Self-Help Book
The End of RIPP is not about positive thinking.
It is not about fixing yourself.
It is not about endlessly analysing the past.
Instead, it offers a new way of understanding why emotional suffering repeats and how awareness can begin to interrupt that process.
Many readers have told me that the greatest value of the book wasn't simply learning something new.
It was finally understanding themselves with greater clarity and compassion.
Begin Here
One of the principles behind RIPP is that understanding should be available to everyone.
That's why much of the thinking behind the book is freely available throughout this website.
The Understanding RIPP section introduces the key ideas and explains the RIPP Loop and the RIPP Vortex.
The book simply takes those ideas much further.
It explores the psychology, the science, the practical application and the wider implications of RIPP in far greater depth.
Whether you are looking for help with anger, anxiety, relationships or simply wanting to understand yourself more clearly, I hope it offers a perspective that is both reassuring and genuinely useful.
